What is a life coach?
Think of life as a journey. On that journey, there are many destinations we would like to reach and many obstacles we must traverse in order to get there. Each of us carries a map in our pocket and the tools we need to overcome the obstacles. Sometimes the map you carry may be unclear. Sometimes you may be unsure which destination you would like to visit, or what obstacle is keeping you from getting there. Or perhaps you’re currently at a place you don’t want to be. The tools you carry with you may be difficult to identify or use efficiently. This is where the life coach comes in.
The job of the life coach is to help you read your map, plan where you want to go and how to get there, as well as helping you to utilize your tools.
What is a life coach not?
Using the metaphor above, it is not the job of a life coach to pick your next destination or give you new tools. Everything you need for your journey is within you alone. Through dialogue and intervention, the life coach can help you to unlock your own answers and anchor your strengths.
It is also very important to note that a coach is not a psychotherapist. A life coach can provide you with techniques and guidance to help you in your everyday life but, if you are suffering from a medical condition, you need the help of a medical professional.
